Subpoena

The word subpoena translates from latin and means "under" and "punishment" put together.  It means you must comply under punishment of the court.  There are many types of subpoenas.  Usually, it just means you have to appear before a court proceeding but others may require you to produce documents.  If you are curious about this and want to learn more, please read this blog post.
