Summons

Many people have heard of a "Summons" but aren't exactly sure what it is and what part it plays in the legal process.  A summons is what it says that it is: the court is summoning you to appear before it.  Usually, a summons is accompanied with a Complaint.  Under Nebraska statute, like most states, a person is entitled to be served with a copy of a lawsuit as well as a summons.  In fact, it's the the very requirement for a court to obtain jurisdiction over a Defendant.  If you have been served a Summons and aren't sure what to do, you should contact an attorney immediately.  If you are interested in the Peterson Legal Team assisting you, please contact our office to schedule a time to meet.
